Alex started to work on a home education programme with Christopher, a non-verbal, 'severely' autistic child from the age of sixteen and quickly realised that she wanted to dedicate her career to working with people with autism.
A few years after joining Christopher's programme Alex was invited to see him working with Soma Mukhopadhyay, the developer of the Rapid Prompting Method (RPM). Alex saw that Soma was able to 'get through' to all the students, regardless of their varying challenges, and enable them to demonstrate their intelligence. Over the next three years Alex saw the impact that RPM had on Christopher; education had brought a richness to his life and he was able to express his opinions and thoughts. She began to work with students and families across the UK by herself and with Christopher's other facilitators (now an organisation called 'Unlocking Voices - using RPM') to build her skill level.
After finishing her degree in Education and qualifying as a primary school teacher, Alex completed an internship with Soma Mukhopadhyay at HALO in Austin, Texas (September - December, 2014) who stated "Alex demonstrates exemplary skill and knowledge of the application and benefits of the Soma Rapid Prompting Method" (see letter). After this she became a Soma® certified RPM provider, working full-time in the UK. She supports students to learn and express themselves beyond what was thought possible, whilst empowering parents and teachers to become effective in working with their child/student using RPM.
Alex strongly believes that all people with autism and similar conditions are capable of learning age appropriately if they are taught in a personalised manner that enables them to express themselves. She believes that education can help her students understand and appreciate the world around them and allow them to lead more fulfilling and purposeful lives.
